Description

The route from Montieri is typical of the terrain that the upper plains of Maremma provide with plenty of stiff climbing and fun descents. Our suggested lunch stop is in Monterotondo Marittimo, however you will earn whatever you choose from the menu, as the first half of this ride, although fairly evenly split, isn’t at all plain sailing. Lunch is followed by a sharp descent, and a big dose of flat riding on the lower coastal plains before the final ascent back to Montieri. A brief respite is available as the route visits the magnificient cathedral of Massa Marittima, where you may wish to take another coffee while admiring the sights. However don’t get too comfortable as there is still quite a chunk of climbing left before you can put your feet up at Hotel Refugio Prategiano!
