Description

After a shallow climb out of Roccalbegna, the route takes you on some of Italy’s quietest roads. After crossing the Albegna river you may opt for an obligatory macchiato to help you on the fast rolling roads and climb up to around 600m for lunch, at over half effort. The recommended lunch stop (60km) is situated in Scansano, home of the delicious local rosso, Morellino di Scansano. Try not to be tempted to taste the vino quite yet, as you may regret it for the final long ascent back to Roccalbegna. If you need another coffee boost or top up the water we have recommended a café stop within striking distance of Roccalbegna, and will serve as a welcome enhancement at the end of a challenging yet extremely enjoyable route.
