Description

Conquering this peak should be on the list of every Tuscany loving cyclist. Although there are 5 significant ascents to Vetta Amiata, this route takes you clockwise from Roccalbegna to Seggiano at the start of one of the longer and harder ascents up to Vetta Amiata standing at 1,774m. The undulating approach to Seggiano will warm you up nicely. The climb itself is mainly covered, and so the air can cool quite quickly, especially noticeable after 1400m where the altitude starts to stress the cardio-respiratory system for the final three kilometres or so, so pace yourself to wisely! As a reward to conquering Monte. Amiata, we recommend a glass of Ciliegiolo, La Selva, 2013. This wine has characteristic fresh notes of red fruits, cherries, elegantly finished with a slight spicy nuance. The locanda specialises in traditional rabbit, wild boar and truffle regional dishes.
