The area has a rich history; the Medici once resided in the many villas and castelli and is also known for ancient Etruscan settlements and archeology. Rufina is situated just to the south, famous for its Chianti Classico wineries. Our route packages from La Topaia let you explore Mugello and Chianti at your own pace, as well as enjoy easy access to Florence. Description

This is a great route to experience Florence by bike, and provides some training or recovery depending if you take it easy or not. Before heading to Piazza Michaelangelo you may want to stop for coffee in Fiesole, known for its ancient history with Etruscan remains and Roman baths from the 9th-8th Century BC. You will enter Florence on quieter roads, but may still need to be adept at avoiding a random scooter or two. Piazza Michelangelo should be your first stop before lunch to soak up the magnificent sights of the Florentine skyline, river Arno and incredible renaissance period architecture. Our proposed lunch stop is on Piazza Santa Croce, where you can sit and gaze at the magnificent Santa Croce church on this less touristy, but equally stunning side of the city. You should have plenty of time to make it back to La Topaia via the slightly longer route for an afternoon dip in the pool under the warm afternoon sun.
